As much as I talk about how precise our itinerary is, I feel the need to admit it is not perfect.
This time around, we were tweaking and changing and making adjustments right up until we left and, it seems, we both thought the other was proofing more than either of us actually were.
The last few days we have found some mistakes -- typos, inaccurate driving times, incorrect arrival times -- all seem to be the result of us making changes in one spot and not remembering to go back and change all the other spots, or simply not checking our work.
One example is when we had ourselves leaving the Louisiana state line rest stop at 1:00p, driving for 90 minutes, and arriving at our hotel at 1:30p. This simple typo we didn't catch before the trip, meant that we had to cut out the hotel pool time for the kids yesterday, which they were none too happy about.
Good news is that none of these mistakes have been catastrophic to the plan. Still, this is not our style, and in that time before we figure out how to flex the plan and adjust to compensate for the mistake, the feeling, for us, is akin to winging it.
Our itinerary in our trip binder is now marked up with pencil notes in hopes that we have found all the mistakes and will be able to enjoy our not-at-all-winging-it style for the rest of the trip.
