in Denham Springs, LA
We met our friends in Baton Rouge at the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center when it opened at 9a -- even that early it was muggy and buggy. Still, we took a nature walk along the path to get our little bit o' swamp experience while in Louisiana.

We were all happy to make it back to the air conditioned nature center building, where we looked at the animals on display. My daughter even got to feed a roach to a turtle, which she seemed happy to do.
It was also the first real gift shop we have come across in our trip and all three of the kids were excited to spend a little of the money they had saved for vacation.
Next it was time for lunch, and Pot & Paddle fit the bill for us to try jambalaya and gumbo.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent visiting with our good friends. They graciously allowed us to use their laundry room to wash our clothes and repack them for the end of the trip and they generously prepared a delicious home-cooked meal and dessert. The visit was a short one but we are so glad we were able to spend some time with them.
Back on the road in the morning to the conclusion of JBS's Civil War journey.
