I mentioned not long ago that, after nearly a year of playing Pokémon Go, our family of five was looking forward to taking PoGO on the road for the first time. Shortly after that, we realized that our upcoming road trip will take us into the designated area to catch the region-specific Corsola. Let's just say that since we noticed that, when my son is asked about what he is most looking forward to on our road trip, his answer has been, "Finding a Corsola!" and one of my daughters has been sharing her plan to drop her Corsola in a gym when we return so everyone can see it.
Well, Niantic's big update just went live yesterday and we all got a bit more excited about taking our PoGO game on the road. The brand new gym badge system allows for us to spin the PokéStop at a gym to earn a badge that is added to an in-game map. How fun! I just love pin-points in maps and while this map is a very low-def representation of the world, I still think it will be an entertaining way to mark our travels. The kids will surely get a kick out of opening their game maps and clicking on the little gym badge icons to look back at the places we have visited.
The big update was about more than just gym badges, though we are still waiting to get a chance to experience the new raids. I expect that we will be able to go on PoGO raids in time for our road trip, we'll have to see how that works and if it fits in.
Ironically enough, while we are excited to take PoGO on the road to new states, thousands of other players are planning to travel to our state for the recently announced (and quickly sold out) Pokémon GO Fest to take place in Chicago next month. It is rumored that Legendary Pokémon will be "unlocked" during raids at this event. We, however, will not be there. So, even though we are curious and excited about the possibilities of what will be released at the fest, we will continue to most look forward to experiencing Pokémon GO on the road this summer.
