Rend Lake is located in southern Illinois near I-57. It has been a gathering spot for generations of my family.
Rend is a man-made lake, created by damming the Big Muddy River downstream of the convergences of Gun Creek and Casey Fork.
We've been there several times – sometimes camping, sometimes staying in the Seasons Lodge rental condos at Rend Lake Golf Course. We've reserved shelters in the recreation areas for hosting family reunions, as well.
We always found the rental condos to be quite comfortable. While we had grandpa with us as well as infants and toddlers, we appreciated staying here as a base while other family members camped out at the campgrounds.
As for camping and picnic shelter facilities, Rend Lake has served us well and without problems. It is a great, easy to get to, recreational area in southern Illinois.
