Nassau; Cruise Day 4
Nassau |
The full day at the beach at Princess Cays was fabulous but it was also exhausting and we were feeling like we wished we had a day to recoup before our next port of call. We did not, though. Bright and early we were docked at Nassau.
I was not looking forward to our original plan of spending the morning at a public beach in Nassau before heading back to the ship for a change of clothes and then taking the afternoon to explore the city.
Luckily, most of my family agreed. Four of us had enough of the beach but one daughter had not. Our compromise was to spend the morning exploring the city and then see how we all felt about the afternoon at the beach (with the possibility the my husband would take that one daughter to the beach while I took the other two back to the ship).
So, after a quick breakfast, we set out to the top must-see on our Nassau list: The Queen's Staircase, carved out of solid limestone by slaves in the 1790s. I thought it was a pretty cool spot and loved that we beat the crowds there and got some pictures without anyone in the background.

We opted to just walk there and back. It wasn't a long walk but it was already hot and humid, so the kids were a bit whiny. Plus, most of us were feeling a little "land-sickness" that the heat wasn't helping.

We stopped in a couple shops but we were all ready to head back to the ship before very long.

We were all content to just hang out on the ship for awhile. My husband took our girls to the pool while it was much less crowed and I took our son to Hunger Games trivia.

He's read all the books and seen the movies. Since it was a port day, there were literally only 5 of us in the room. Still, it was pretty cool when he won a little trophy.
Then I hung out by the pool with the girls while my husband and son played giant chess.

We finished up pool time and changed so the girls could do the Camp Ocean Spin Art activity.

It turned out that my one daughter no longer wanted to go to the beach. My husband and son went back to Nassau for some conch fritters and coconut and we were content with being done at Nassau.
